Barak Communication is the Multi System Operator running from Silchar. Barak Communication started its journey in the field of Cable TV service in the year 2005. It has a wider reach across the Barak Valley. Presently Barak Communication is running four local channels namely Jai Mata Di Barak, BTN and Barak Music & SCC. News views art and culture of the locality are being promoted by the channels. BTN is one of the most popular cable TV channels among the audience for its great contribution towards TV journalism. BTN News has played a role of watchdog for the people of Barak Valley.

Phases of Digitization

Barak Communication has equipped with digital set-up in April 2014 and started its Set Top Box service in Jan 2015. An ordinance has been passed by the Govt. of India on the mandatory digitization of the Cable Services. According to this amendment made in the section 9 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Amendment Ordinance, 1995, the I&B ministry will make Digital Addressable System mandatory. This measure will empower consumers to an increased number of channels and high quality viewing. The concept of a prime band will be passé after introduction of digitization. Viewers will be able to access digital services only through a set top box (STB).
